The right hates Americans, too.

Michelle Malkin's bizarre defense of internment camps. John Derbyshire and...well, pretty much everything. And, now, Jay Nordlinger.

So Americans who believe Terri Schiavo should have been allowed to die were "Little Eichmanns?" You mean 80% of the freaking country?

Martini Republic has a good piece on this. Ward Churchill was crucified (rightfully so) for saying similar things. The conservative press publishes this stuff!

Flotsam.

God, I feel like it's been a million years since I last blogged.

We spent a nice Easter Sunday with the in-laws wherein I was introduced to the delightfully decadent "City Chicken," a beef/veal concoction served on skewers after being breaded, fried, and baked. It was pretty delicious. We also drove around in a downpour looking at potential neighborhoods in Atlanta where we could move. I'm not totally high on living in Atlanta if I'm not somewhere vaguely nice, hip, and driving-free. Let's hope that works out if we have to move. Mame's parents and I seem to have a different idea of what constitutes a nice neighborhood, as Mame's mother noted that $500,000 three-story early post-Bellum Inman Park mansions were "cute."

Work has been okay. The job hunt is going slowly but surely.

Venice is Sinking seems to have finally finished our #$%^$#@ record, which is a good thing. There's still some "tweaking" to be done, but it's more or less in the can. Now the label hunt ensues. Will keep you posted.

As much as I like to wear sweaters and such, Spring can't come soon enough. It's really nice out today, and I wish it could stay like this every day of the year. A move to San Diego, perhaps?

What a bland post. Sorry I can't think of anything inspiring.

I saw a man peeing in the downtown parking deck stairwell the other night.

SXSW recollections

So I just got back from SXSW. And I met a lot of people. And I missed a lot more people. My company had a party where I drank a Sparks for the first time and stumbled around comically for everyone’s amusement.

Here are my SXSW stats:

Bands seen: 236,789

Bands missed: 23,098,132

Number of shows heard called “amazing”: 1,256,019

Miles walked: 52,001

Beers consumed: 1,571

BBQ meals eaten: 2

Tex-Mex meals eaten: 1

Seriously, what the hell is up with all of the talk about Austin and its BBQ and Tex-Mex stuff? I couldn’t find crap! The only Tex-Mex I had was some guacamole and taguitos (yes!) at the Paste Magazine party! Am I a total idiot? The answer is yes. I did eat something called a sausage taco, but it was pretty much a kielbasa covered in barbecue sauce wrapped in a flour tortilla. Good, yes…but Tex-Mex?

I also saw Elijah Wood drunkenly smooch on some girls. And that Bill Callahan (of Smog fame) and Joanna Newsom (the most beautiful woman in the world) can’t keep their grubby little paws off each other!

More if I feel like it...

A culture of death

I hardly think that a poor environmental record (and I'm not just talking about tree-hugger issues here) constitutes more of a culture of death than a prevailing societal belief in a woman's right to choose or Terry Schiavo's right to die. Our supposed "culture of life"-loving president has presided over major regulatory rollbacks at the EPA involving things like mercury in the soil, Superfund cleanups, etc. These are things that affect us now, not in some ephemeral "in the future" kind of way. And our administration has been fairly evil in regards to this kind of stuff, stuff that could affect countless children and elderly people. Hell, everybody.

Another reason that the death penalty should be reconsidered...

...how about anti-Semitism?

I knew these would start coming out of the woodwork...

...cases that expose Bush's (and the media's, really) hypocrisy on the Schiavo affair.

I thought Republicans didn't like activist judges...

...this Terry Schiavo case has melted my brain. It was ALL I heard about on CNN airport during my three hour layover in Houston. What no one was says about the case in the MSM is that this whole sanctity of life thing is just a way to get anti-abortion language set up as legal precedent. And guess who agrees with me? Yep, Neal Boortz. I'll just let him do the talking for once.

Argh.

Blogger has been really messed up lately. Everything seems to post twice if I can get it to post at all. Sorry.

Had a good time in Hotlanta this weekend. I actually might be able to live there if the job, timing, place, house, etc. was right. Otherwise I would be absolutely miserable.

Mame's students' bands at the Masquerade were the two best we saw in the Battle of the Bands. In fact, one of them, though not exactly original, is definitely marketable. These two bands after all of the BS screamo garbage we had to sit through. I think that dumb-ass heavy metal and hardcore has to be about the most juvenile, uninteresting, boring junk on earth. It's supposed to be "edgy" and "aggressive" while most of it is just predictable and dull.

Mame and I saw Inside Deep Throat and it was pretty interesting. We also ate Thai food and bought some records. I think I bought Loggins and Messina's Greatest Hits.

I'm heading to SXSW for the remainder of the week, so I'm going to be out of commission. I'm going to miss my lady for sure!

If you want to see a rock show, come to the Caledonia tonight to see Venice Is Sinking play with the Rosebuds and the Close. It's spring break at UGA, so I expect thin attendance.

Global Thermo-Nuclear War

Blogger has been pretty messed up as of late. I lost a totally wicked post about, I don't know, something TOTALLY WICKED to its fickle functioning.

So sorry.

I'm wearing my favorite tie today.

More haikus

Some MySpace hotties
Want me to be their friends and
I cannot resist

A lady at Sam's Club
Made fun of my "old" cell phone
Purchased in '04

A blue beaded lamp
Sitting unused near my desk
Where did this come from?

Screw echinacea
That stuff does not work at all
Unregulated

Major league pitchers:
The seventies are long gone
Lose the 'stache, Randy!

My name is Big Gray, and I'm a 24-aholic.

"Hi, Big Gray!"

I was just going to give 24 a shot, having watched a few episodes off and on for a couple of years. And then I was hooked. Like checking-message-boards hooked. Like posting-to-message-boards hooked. I just finished Season 2, and I will have to do everything in my power not to rent Season 2. How did it come to this? Is it torture-happy miserablism of Jack Bauer? Is it the booby misadventures of the incredibly common sense-deprived Kim? I have no idea, but I have a real problem.

For the record, however, I think that, though not quite addictive, The Wire is the best show on TV. Maybe the most important show in a long time.

Is it national poetry month yet?

I wrote some haikus...guess what they are about for a prize!

Vicious caterwauling
Two albums at the same time
A bit cliched, no?

The apocalypse
Will bring leopard underwear
And maybe mutants

My deodorant
Makes me smell like a sleaze or
Neal Schon from Journey

Bob Marley is dead
Many frat boys buy Legend
Columbia House

That's all for now!

Oooow....Bella Coola!

My dear wife, McClintock, and Ms. Comrade have a band called Bella Coola, and they are playing tonight at Tasty World at 10:30 sharp! They're quite good, and it should be a nice alternative to the usual loud "indie rock" out there. Also, I tuned Ms. Comrade's floor tom, so there's that.

Go!

New respect for The Dawg.

Did anybody else out there know that Randy "The Emperor Jackson" (the American Idol Randy Jackson) played bass in Journey? That's awesome.

OMG OTC!

The Olivia Tremor Control are playing a show at the 40 Watt on April 15! Tax Day was never so much fun! I can't freakin' wait. When I moved here they played all of the time, and they put on some of the best shows I've ever seen. And then one day...poof! Gone.

God, I love this town sometimes.

Wow.

I'm listening to the new Akron/Family disc, and it is absolutely phenomenal. Track to put on a mixtape for a girl: "Sorrow Boy."

Wow.
